I got the following information including the great and fearsome-looking logo, from the Kawerau District Council's website.

The Kawerau Big 3 is an annual land-based fishing and hunting event. It is a family event. This year it takes place this weekend 17th - 19th August.

It consists of:

    Competition for serious hunters

Competition for children (15 yrs and under)

    Family/Whanau Day

The weigh-in will take place in Firmin Field, just a bit down Waterhouse Street from where my unit is, so I'll get down there on Saturday and Sunday to get some photos of this year's entries which I'll produce on a later blog entry.

the weigh-in finishes at 3.00 pm on Sunday, and prizegiving will commence as soon as possible after that.

Weigh in cut off times are 12pm for the Possum & Eeling Competition and 3pm for all of categories.

Last years event was a huge success with 35 teams and 71 individuals individuals entering the competition with more then 400 people attending the weigh in and prize giving held on Sunday afternoon. Children are an important part of the weekend event and 93 entered the eeling competition with 40 weighing in.

Here are two photos from the 2010 event, a pig and some eels.

I'm caught out today, because I have little new in mind; most of what I've been thinking about in the last 24 hours has been about matters I've already blogged about.

So, to get something "on paper" as it were, here is an unfinished piece of poetry I've had in my head for many years, adding a new line occasionally but not finishing it off -

There I was, not there at all,

Sitting on a non-existent wall,

When suddenly it came to me

That this was not where I should be.

So, up I got,

And off I trot

To where mayhap I should be;

To you, dear heart, to you.

And, now for a sporting item, jump to the next page.
